Historical County Boundaries and Quinn Land Records
This interactive historical map overlays documented Quinn land grants and deed transactions onto the changing boundaries of North Carolina’s early precincts and counties.
Move the year slider to explore how colonial Carolina developed and how county jurisdictions changed over time. Watch as new precincts and counties were established, existing boundaries shifted, and territory was transferred between jurisdictions. Quinn land transactions appear according to their recorded dates, helping researchers identify the historical counties associated with their ancestors’ records.
The research encompasses the Quinn surname and its many historical spelling variations, reflecting a period before surname spelling became standardized. Land locations are approximate where original records do not establish precise boundaries.
Historical sources and acknowledgments: This map builds upon the earlier historical research and cartographic work of J. D. Lewis at Carolana and the historical boundary GIS data published by the Newberry Library’s Atlas of Historical County Boundaries, North Carolina dataset.
